Our client planned through several stages of a B&B modification of and later addition to their beautiful, private, seaside home, wherein their first need from Before The Architect was a concept drawing of their chosen, public entryway including provision for wheelchair ramp plans.

As it was, in the Before pic, it was bare bones unappealing.  We altered that look totally, effectively, efficiently.  A key ingredient in the heavily annotated After pic is the need for accessibility to the main exterior passage. That's where the wheelchair ramp plans came in, along with stairs adapted for accessibility.  (Note as well, that the pierced lattice frames a view from the porch interior and the home interior.

First comes the Before pic.  We did this to setup the background on which to design the After pic.  Before is based on three photographs and an email confirming a couple of dimensions.  You can see for yourself that we began with an uninviting facade - inaccessible to boot.

We designed over a dozen home designing elements into the Before pic to create the After pic.  These designs individually served one or more purposes -

Minimized structural change either by demolition or home building, therewith holding down costs.

Minor changes aside, the existing has been left intact as is.

Applied common materials with common methods, thereby limiting labor costs in both time and talent.

Maintained an appearance consistent with existing.

Distinguished the physical area as important.

Distinguished the physical area as welcoming.

Applied ADA accessibility principles throughout, including our wheelchair ramp plans and accessible stairway plans.

Developed a facade which could be extended in design up to L1, tying both levels together eventually.

Permitted a phasing of application if warranted by weather, materials, labor availability (very difficult in the locale of application), or budget.

The transformation is remarkable.  Take a peek.

These perspective views are intended for the clients' viewing.  Related builder drawing would be premature at this stage of work and boring, indeed, to look at in relative terms.  Truly, a capable contractor could work from the After pic alone.
