"Whose house is this, anyway? Well, for the time-being it's ours yours and mine. You can have it back free and clear when our work together is done." AG

Dream home plan design Model Drawings represent finished projects before the specifics are worked out, that is, after dream home plan design Concept Drawings and before dream home plan design Construction Drawings. Usually, structural additions and changes demand dream home plan Model Drawings by way of exterior elevations; interior work (interior build outs, tenant build outs, etc.) can necessitate interior drawings. There's a range here, from line drawings that sort of look like sketches . . . . sort of, and often employ hidden-line or masking techniques or 3D all the way up to illustration-quality renderings showing the shade of roses in the fountain garden and a birdie in a beech tree.
As for exterior dream home plan design Model Drawings, you can portray as much as you want, need, or are willing to pay for: show the new windows; up go the flower boxes; on go the clad and shingles; etc. On the interior: bring on the furniture; paint the walls; play with light and lighting design. Maybe you'll even venture vaunted renderings (for computers these days, this is an art form requiring lifetimes of practice, expensive software for the really good stuff, and piles of billable hours . . . piles and piles of billable hours).
If you want to spend lots of money on drawings, dream home plan design Model Drawings are the drawings for you. Therefore, this is the time in the design process when you must carefully consider how much more work time and money to spend before you get to the dream home plan Construction Drawings, some of which albethey later in the building process will give you much the same visualizations anyway at least in 2d home design and 2d commercial design ways.
It's important to be clear on this matter of dream home plan design Model Drawings. Such work extensively done derives from several sources, most of which are avoidable with discipline, thought, and patience.
| These avoidable sources include, but are not limited to: not enough dream home plan design Concept Drawing; fuzzy thinking about choice-points of want, need, afford and appearance; the really cool look to pictures brought on by the advent of and advances in computer-assisted 3d design rendering. | |
| A good reason for a dream home plan design Model Drawing of some sort: major or dramatic remodeling or additions in architecture for an existing structure or any fully to-be-built structure. Still, well-prepared dream home plan Construction Drawings can fill many if not all these necessities, especially when those drawings are executed in 3d designs. |
Autocad Granddad makes Model Drawings to satisfy a need to visualize something important, make choices, experiment. Sometimes he works these Model Drawings in 2d home and commercial designs, sometimes in 3d home and commercial designs. If you need to, write the old geezer.

CASE STUDIES
Home Remodel. In the case of the Garrison Colonial remodel featured throughout this website, the owners skipped Model Drawings so far, except for a look at the front face where there are a lot of changes. (We might do something else on the backside, once we're settled on more specifics . . . that's a ways off right now.) You can see the front-face changes in the following series of pictures of "before" and "after" in 2d and 3d home designs. These Model Drawings are as far as the homeowners needed to go in order to be satisfied with the work planned.
Basement Remodeling. Half of a basement is to undergo an extensive basement remodeling. These basement designs change rough-framed voids to distinctive, inhabitable spaces. Dramatic. So, the Autocad Granddad has drawn models of the framing to begin to substantiate the vision and sort out the basement remodeling ideas.
Shed Building Plan. This one is great fun. It's to be a "vaguely Japanese-inspired shed on [a roughly 8'x10'] foundation. " What a wonderful challenge! This study of shed building plans almost qualifies as a Concept Drawing, except for three points: the bare structure is the finished product; the shed will stand alone; and the exact siting is a given. Design is the thing.
Commercial Leasehold Improvement, Tenant Build Out. This is a commercial build out of a "white box", a term designating a shell of a commercial space with minimal lighting, insulation, outlets, and half-bath, sheetrocked walls all to code. Actually, we're to work with two boxes, in order to model a build out of four work areas.
Spa Enclosure Symmetry. In this section, we focus on design. Symmetry to be clearer, some of its obligations and opportunities. Now it's time to address the symmetry of the Spahaus structure. The eye favors symmetry. Or better, the mind's eye favors the symmetrical an expected regularity, pattern, a repetition signals safety, soothing, security, satisfaction, an awaited coherence, certainty, correspondence. In custom home design, the opportunities and obligations of symmetry are frequent but rarely pervasive. Unusually, symmetry pervades the Spahaus. This Spahaus building design isn't anything if it isn't symmetrical. Once the clients suggested an elongated, octagonal footprint and the Autocad Granddad decided that he liked it too, much of the remaining custom floor plan design and elevation design was self-determined conceptually.
Basement Remodeling Tutorial. Here comes a basement design workout. This is an exercise like a physical workout, but this time it's about designing. Designing basements, that is. Basement remodeling ideas abound, and many are just silly. And expensive. Here are a half-dozen or so nuggets of purely refined wisdom and understanding from that great geezer, the Autocad Granddad.
Bathroom Remodel. Come one, come all to see the AG (with Mrs. AG very nearby) work magic in making room for a guest towel and amenities closet in a bathroom which at first blush simply doesn't have to space for it. Before The Architect will take a second look.
