Fireplace with grill or spit, common in a
Tuscany kitchen - fireplace noted at countertop height and set in a
corner of the work area
Countertops in a Tuscany kitchen of stone or wood, single-purpose,
sacrificed in depth for sizing the kitchen table to the maximum
Eclectic kitchen=Tuscany kitchen ware
Free-standing furniture
and appliances, i.e., a Tuscany kitchen design eschews built-ins
Flour cupboard (really not just
in a Tuscany kitchen . . . in America, so 19th century)
Large, single basin porcelain or stone sink (‘apron
front’ in Kohler terms, though such a sink configuration is also referred to
as ‘apron sink’ and ‘farmhouse sink’ and ‘farm sink’ with and without the
‘kitchen’ designation), noting that separated into a 2- basin may be more
conventionally useful
Comment: Unlike Traditional kitchen design and
construction, a Tuscany kitchen aims to impart the sense of consistency with
and reflection of the home as a whole – Italian style, i.e., if you’re going to
gussy-up a space with decoration, the kitchen’s the space.
