TIDBITS OF OUR HOME DESIGN
AND HOME BUILDING PLANS CONSULTING
"True masters of their realms make it look easy, and they will neither run nor hide from your inquiry." AG
. . . . . . .
Sometimes, our comments and analyses about home design and home building plans are, in our opinion, good enough to reprint. Here are examples of that good work. We'll neither introduce nor further explain any of these entries; they can stand on their own merits.
The purpose to these copies of client communications is to make you keenly sensitive as to the depths and lengths we'll go to make a point of inquiry from a client crystal clear in our reply - honest, straightforward, direct, insightful, common sensical, informed, attentive.
Take a look for yourself at the high quality of these samples.
Doghouse Dormers - Choices on choices. Here's an interesting choice to make as between 2 types of doghouse dormers - that's the style of dormer atop our home (as opposed, principally, to shed roof dormers – typically flat-topped, pitched at about half the primary roof's pitch). In the discourse to follow, dormers devolve to two types by size and roof pitch on the outside and two types essentially by interior ceiling height, angle, lighting, etc. with an inherent leeway of dormer placement in a roofline. If all that seems confusing, it can be. May your continued reading and close attention help to clarify and keep in mind the basics herein, since their understanding is crucial to the end-appearance of our home from both outside and inside.
Door Frames - Symmetry & Signals. This note is about the arches, as recently raised by you; namely, at issue is the relationship of several arches at L1 to available interior portals at L1. More specifically, having designated three portals at L1 for arches – Foyer-Kitchen, Kitchen-Family Room, and Kitchen-Dining Room – you have inquired about the suitability of these arched portals to the portal between Kitchen and Back Hall which due to its narrowness seems unworkable as an arched passage.
