TUSCANY PORCH
First the Tuscany porch as shed roofed in, say, portico or other shelter
· From the roof deck bottom of face on down
o Wood is the material
o Its exposed all of it at least within the porch
o Preferably, keep the members rough-sawed, adzed, or bark-skinned in part or whole, stained as you like it to for age and otherwise not closed
· The Tuscany porch roof deck is of planks oriented axially; though, nowadays, it might be plywood sheathed atop
· The Tuscany porch roof planks are supported
o By the Tuscany equivalent of rafters usually in the form of rough-sawed timber or more primitive
o As close as 12LI on center
· The Tuscany porch rafters are, in turn, supported by an axial beam of greater size than the rafters
o Either flush to the rafters when the bigger beam can run into wall at its extents
o Or posted in the interim twixt attachment to rim beams and rafters
Comment: Of interest, please note that designer guides that the sides of the Tuscany porch should remain open and not enclosed when not otherwise captured by perimeter walls as a matter of style and a facility to daylight. While this openness appears Tuscany, it may not suit some local climes.
Second, the Tuscany porch as veranda, pergola, sun screen, loggia and the like
