A/K/A ROOF RUNOFF SCHEDULE
. . . . . . . . .
BEFORE
House plan watershed, or roof runoff, schedules are to most folks something similar to uncommon art in common places:
This house plan set author has never seen the likes of either this sidewalk art or the art of a watershed schedule in a house plan.

AFTER
At first blush, a house plan watershed schedule might appear also to be a l0t of something about nothing much - gauging how much rain water can run off a roof and what that means for gutter and leader sufficiency. In house plans with simple roof plans, that appearance could be right. However, in more complex house plans with more complex roof designs, watershed schedules can give you all sorts of insights as to laying out rain gutters and leaders that could mean the difference between long-term convenience to clients and real misery.
In this example of a house plan Detail - Watershed Schedule several interesting opportunities arose to do it better than one might expect if the house plan left it to "whatever." Among them -
|
The surprising and cautionary note that one side of the front entry rolling roof should take two leaders of a given size to handle roof runoff adequately, one at either end of the eave line; whereas, the other side didn't need two leaders except for symmetry's sake.
|
The left front corner roof drainage could pose serious overflow problems without extra gutter and other measures to over-compensate for a highly concentrated drainage point from large roof planes.
|
The roof inset in the back requires splitting the roof drainage both ways so as not to overload either side with all the runoff.
|
That roof inset also required care in running the leaders so as not to obstruct proximate window and door operations. |

Note that the data forming the basis for this schedule are part of the environmental design metrics collected early-on in the house plan design process, notably certain long-term stats on high-end rain levels.
Note also that the abbreviations in this house plan Detail - Watershed Schedule are defined elsewhere on the sheet, but are not presented herewith for their general irrelevance to the core message of this schedule's presentation now.
