Headers have always been important to residential construction and house plan sets. Now more than ever; maybe, now too much. We've gotten past just having them hold up things.

Now we have them hold up more things when the second story goes on in a remodel. |

Now we have them help to fortify a weak return. |

Now we might expect them to stabilize ever-increasing expanses of windows and doors in wall segments. |

Before The Architect has even seen them wistfully looked to as a form of rafter beam in lieu of ceiling structure otherwise chopped up with big trays and vaults. |
Before The Architect takes a hard view of header designing in house plans. Their approach is more text-oriented than table-oriented, giving leeway judgment on matters of material though only on the side of greater and not lesser performance metrics and not at all on application, as you can see for yourself in the following house plan Detail - Header Schedule . . . . . . .

In fact, Before The Architect is even harder than that on its demands of headers as may be annotated in floor plans, framing plans, and roof plans; however, additional burdens on Before The Architect attempts to seize such moments with a keen eye to a key aspect of first-class house plan design - redundancy.
