REINFORCED FRAME WALL DESIGN
SECTION DETAIL IN ELEVATION
By Before The Architect Copyright 2009
If you mean "Am I a disciple of Alexander's?" then the answer is "No." Nobody on this planet walks on my life's waters. I think Christopher would have had that were not thus. That'd be too bad for him. His system is brittle as plate glass, closed to my world and yours, frozen in all its dimensions, unable to adapt. Before The Architect
Detail of Reinforced Frame Wall Frame Design, Section in Elevation
1) When a frame wall plane gets as opened up and potential unstable as this one, this home designer draws a section detail at least in elevation to get wall framing and reinforcement where it ought to go to hold it strong and steady and not wibble-wobble ho hum ho.
a) Windows over frame over transoms over 12 linear feet of beveled glass bifold doors.
b) In today’s motive to open up the inside and bring the outside in, such section details in one form or another to adapt to a circumstance are not uncommon for Before The Architect
Comment: The application represented in this dream home drawing was inspired by conversation with an engineer at (LE) Johnson Hardware, Inc, Elkhart, IN. In the same vein that this dream home designer can say that his first internist never met a lab test she didn’t like; likewise, he never met an engineer that he didn’t like. Especially so for structural engineers – you know, the guys put upon to shift liability away from the residential contractor. They’ve all been some stand-offish at the get-go; nevertheless, once they understand that AG and The Missus are not fetching for a key to their deep pockets, relationships warm quickly.
2) The aim here is to keep the rattling wibble-wobble out of this highly amended partition
a) Some relief comes from a crossing ceiling line between the window groupings, but not of itself judged sufficient to hold that well perforated wall stable
b) AG determined that he had to go the extra mile to hold the partition steady, not for the windows but for the doors’ operation over time
