FLOOR FRAMING FASTENERS & WALL FRAMING FASTENERS

1)     FASTENERS SHALL BE APPLIED AFTER NOT LESS THAN 1/2 LINEAR INCH DIAMETER CONTINUOUS BEAD OF CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVE HAS BEEN APPLIED TO SUBORDINATE FRAMING MEMBER FACES TO WHICH SHEATHING IS TO BE APPLIED.  FASTENERS SHALL BE APPLIED COMPLETELY OVERALL TO EACH GIVEN SHEET BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH APPLICATION AND FASTENING OF ANOTHER SHEET.  ADHESIVE SHALL CONFORM TO NOT LESS THAN AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR TESTING AND MATERIALS MOST RECENT ASTM D3498, “ADHESIVES FOR FIELD-GLUING PLYWOOD TO LUMBER FRAMING FOR FLOOR SYSTEMS” (INCLUDING HUD-FHA USE OF MATERIALS BULLETIN UM60A) AND AMERICAN PLYWOOD ASSOCIATION AFG-01 “ADHESIVES FOR FIELD-GLUING PLYWOOD TO WOOD FRAMING” 

2)     Wood Structural Panels (Plywood) To 1" thick. Nailing Pattern: 4" on center along panel edges over continuous members and double nailed at edges with crossing members and 6" on center in field. 1 Nail: 2.50"x 0.131" (8d common); 2.50"x 0.131" deformed shank; 2.50"x 0.120" deformed shank; 3"x 0.120" deformed shank; 3"x 0.128" (10d box); 3"x 0.131"; 3.25"x 0.131". 

3)     Double Top Plate - Interior Non-Bearing Walls (Face-nailed). 1 nail at 24" on center: 3.50"x 0.162" (16d common). 1 nail at 16" on center: 3"x 0.120"; 3.25"x 0.120"; 3"x 0.131"; 3.25"x 0.131"; 3.50"x 0.135" (16d box). 

4)     Top Plate Laps and Intersections (Face-nailed), number of nails each side of lap. 2 nails: 3.50"x 0.162" (16d common). 3 nails: 3"x 0.120"; 3.25"x 0.120"; 3.25"x 0.128" (12d box); 3"x 0.131"; 3.25"x 0.131". 

5)     Stud to Top Plate or Sole Plate (End-nailed). 2 nails: 3.50"x 0.162" (16d common). 3 nails: 3"x 0.131"; 3.25"x 0.131"; 3.50"x 0.135" (16d box). 

6)     Stud to Top Plate or Sole Plate (Toe-nailed). 3 nails: 3.50"x 0.162" (16d common). 4 nails: 2.50"x 0.131" (8d common); 3"x 0.128" (10d box); 3"x 0.131"; 3.25"x 0.131". 

7)     Doubled Studs (Face-nailed). 1 nail at 24" on center: 3.50"x 0.162" (16d common). 1 nail at 16" on center: 3"x 0.131"; 3.25"x 0.131"; 3.50"x 0.135" (16d box). 

8)     Bottom Plate to End and Head Joists (Face-nailed) - when not used for shear transfer. 1 nail at 16" on center: 3.50"x 0.162" (16d common). 1 nail at 12" on center:  3"x 0.131"; 3.25"x 0.131"; 3.50"x 0.135" (16d box). 

9)     Bottom Plate to End and Head Joists (Face-nailed) - when used for shear transfer. 1 nail at 6" on center: 3.50"x 0.162" (16d common). 1 nail at 4" on center: 3"x 0.131"; 3.25"x 0.131"; 3.50"x 0.135" (16d box). 

10) Blocking between Wall Studs and Rafters (Toe-nailed). 4 nails, 2 at each end: 2.50"x 0.131" (8d common); 3"x 0.128" (10 box); 3"x 0.131"; 3.25"x 0.131". 

11) Gable Offset L-Shaped Member to Gable Studs. 1 nail at 5" on center: 3.50"x 0.162" (16d common). 1 nail at 4" on center: 3.50"x 0.131"; 3.50"x 0.120" deformed shank. 

12) Gable Offset 2”x Member to 2”x 4” Member (fastened to form vertical L-shaped member). 1 nail at 16" on center: 3.50"x 0.162" (16d common). 1 nail at 16" on center: 3.50"x 0.128" (12d box nail). 1 nail at 16" on center: 3"x 0.120"; 1 nail at 12" on center:  2.50"x 0.131". 

13) Headers. (Face-nailed, w/ ½” CDX flitch continuously glued both ply faces). To 2”x6” material, 2 nails, one face: 3.50"x 0.162" (16d common). Over 2x6 material, 3 nails both faces:  3"x 0.120"; 3.25"x 0.120"; 3.25"x 0.128" (12d box); 3"x 0.131"; 3.25"x 0.131" – overall evenly spaced in rows 6" on center. 

14) Headers to Jack Studs. (Toe-nailed), number of nails at each end. 2 nails: 2.50"x 0.131" (8d common); 3" x 0.128" (10d box). 4 nails: 2"x 0.113"; 2"x 0.113"; 3 nails: 3"x 0.120"; 3.25"x 0.120". 

15) King Studs to Headers. (Face-nailed), number of nails at each face/ King Stud. 2 nails: 2.50"x 0.131" (8d common); 3" x 0.128" (10d box). 4 nails: 2"x 0.113"; 2"x 0.113"; 3 nails: 3"x 0.120"; 3.25"x 0.120". 

16) Cripples to Plates (Toe-nailed), number of nails at each end. 2 nails:  2.50"x 0.131" (8d common); 3"x 0.128" (10d box). 4 nails: 2"x 0.113"; 3 nails: 3"x 0.120"; 3.25"x 0.120".
