Small Business Management and Consulting. 1969-Present
Director, Affiliate, Dealer, Contractor, Co-owner, and CFO
RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION. For 21 years, worked 9 upscale, existing
properties through all phases of your home designing, upgrade, reselling 2–5 years — each
for about twice purchase. Transacted nearly $10,000,000. Always
general contracted and, usually subcontractor. For 11 years, transferred
skills to working for others. Hundreds of jobs.
COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION. For 11 years, designer and both general and
subcontractor in remodeling and build out of several sales, administrative, and
professional office spaces.
INDUSTRIAL CONSTRUCTION. For 11 years, designer and both general and
subcontractor in high-voltage electrical wiring, high pressure air and water plumbing, and
high-stress carpentry.
GENERAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT (INCLUDING PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT). Worked closely
with US merchant bankers in projects to develop product inventions for
entertainment, manufacturing, and technology.
SPECIAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT. Totally edited and revised (to the point of
co-authorship) a 562-page (final count) postgraduate-level text for camera-ready
publication, and secured a world-renowned publisher.
TEAM BUILDING/STAFF TRAINING/DEVELOPMENT. Mentored clients, suppliers,
inspectors, and other contractors’ in understanding of good home designing, methods,
and materials appropriate to a given job, done as standard practice.
Authored web sites that not only inform, but also instruct. Accepted as
Adjunct Faculty candidate at online college in Michigan and online university in
Minnesota. Invited to apply as Adjunct Faculty candidate at online
universities in Illinois and Nebraska. Director of The Glade Group, an
executive training organization.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT. Started computer-dependent businesses
in: small business plans consulting; home inspection; home,
commercial, and industrial remodeling, installation, and repair; construction
design consulting; retail sales enterprise. Designed, authored, edited web
sites. Webmaster.
CASH MANAGEMENT. Developed unique, small business, PC-based financial
reporting system (and new mathematical operating system) to track true cash
position daily.
EXTERNAL CONSULTING. Founded Before The Architect, consulting to builders
and buyers, preparatory to major construction, operated in Connecticut locally
and in Georgia nationally (see http://www.beforethearchitect.com).
Consulted on plans writing and other management matters with several small
businesses, including commercial ground transportation, digitized mapping,
retail sales, accounting, executive training, etc. Privately advised Cuisinart takeover team head throughout hostile negotiations. Advised on
small business retail purchase and upgrade/move proposals, site selection, build
out design, financing, and construction contracting and subcontracting.
SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT. For 21 years, worked the life cycle of
home property investment hands-on. For 11 years, managed the entire
life cycle of distinct properties design, build out, installation, and repair.
Big Business Management and Consulting. 1969-1985
Citibank, N. A., International Private Bank, Vice President, CFO/CPO (Division
Level)
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT. Quickly climbed corporate ladder to be
senior executive in largest US-based international private bank (then and now),
in charge of finance and strategic planning. Innermost executive
circle. Worldwide market and offices. Liaison up and across
organization and in-country.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT. Directed all financial reporting. Presented in
writing and in person — to describe, guide, decide, and defend.
STRATEGIC PLANNING. Directed, authored, edited, and delivered plans by the
fistfuls as CPO. Subjects included every aspect of business.
Embedded strategic planning keys in individual officer job goals. Scouted
out the wholesale emigration of division.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT. Computer-based investment performance
measurement and presentation, domestic and international. First in entire
corporate Group to apply PC to daily workload. Directed development of
global, fully integrated Sales MIS tracking systems via major international task
force project.
CHIEF OF STAFF ADMINISTRATION. Unofficial Chief of Staff: buffered,
channeled, consulted, and interposed between and on behalf of the division head
and his other key reports.
INTERNAL CONSULTANT. Coached, counseled, and mentored over many years on
all matters of business within and outside segment.
GENERAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT (INCL. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT). Ran interim and
annual reports to shareholders; developed client investment products; compared
itemized trading costs of individual stock portfolios in securities markets
globally.
SPECIAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT. Investigated, reported, and recommended on all
sorts of sensitive matters; negotiated in Japan and US in pre-IPO matters;
quantitatively rated all marketing levels for pay ranges.
PRODUCT MANAGEMENT. In first set of Chairman-selected product managers.
ORGANIZATION RE-ENGINEERING. Co-authored an extraordinary matrix
management system.
MARKET TARGET SETTING & SCORING. Co-directed market-based budget and
review system built bottoms-up and fully integrated. Actively reviewed
marketing officer performance.
MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION. Presented on investment
performance calculations. Wrote first-ever computer program in company to
chart certain indexed returns. Overhauled budgeting in old-line division
using Bayesian math. Rewrote international Division financials from
combined to local tax basis.
TEAM BUILDING/TRAINING. Earned reputation for sharing knowledge, coaching,
mentoring, and teaching, backing up. Put financial control staff through
extensive training programs and job rotation. Standard reviewer of Group-
and Division-level outside training prospects.
POLICY & PROCEDURE DEVELOPMENT. Established company-wide, securities
sales policy. Co-wrote Marketing Policy Handbook. Adapted segment to
international tax basis. Co-authored a progressively more complex matrix
management system. Screened training seminars.
CASH MANAGEMENT. Co-managed $20 billion apx Eurodollars as coach and
screener and economics sounding board. Oversaw major shifts in overnight
domestic placements to advantage earnings significantly.
